Gorgeous deep red spikes of flowers reaching 5ft - 6ft in height with greenish bronze leaves. Edible leaves are tender when young. Seeds can be cooked like a grain or ground into flour. Amaranth is native to Mexico and Central America where it has been cultivated for centuries, but this variety is developed for cooler climates.
Growing conditions: Amaranth needs full sun and loves the heat. It also prefers soil with low to average fertility and requires consistent moisture. Growth may slow in cooler weather but will increase rapidly in summer heat. 60-70 days to flower; 120-130 to harvest seed. Staking recommended.
