Chicory "FSF breeding mix"

from $5.00

Chiccoria intybus

Life cycle: annual

Chicory is a family of bitter, earthy greens that includes endive, frisee, and radicchio. This mix from Freed Seed Federation has diverse genetics but with enough Rosalba radicchio influence to ensure beautiful color and cold hardiness. Leaf size and shape may vary. Excellent raw, or larger outer leaves may be grilled or sauteed.

Growing conditions: Plant in full sun in rich, well-drained soil. Grows best at temperatures below 75ºF. Cool temperatures encourage pink coloration.

Sowing instructions: Plant 1/4” deep in early spring or fall. Seeds germinate best at 65-70-75ºF

Stewardship chain: A collaboration between Freed Seed Federation and the late Dr. John Navazio, selected for Northeast populations but with sufficient diversity in heading timing, color, and shape for selection in other regions.

Lot number: FSF2507, 90% germination rate
